Suspended Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil attended the Kerala Assembly session on Monday, marking his first public appearance since facing multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. The session saw protests by SFI workers, who blocked his vehicle near the MLA hostel demanding his resignation.Mamkootathil, who represents Palakkad, arrived a few minutes after the House convened and quietly took a backbench seat in the opposition block. Despite the party’s action, he continues to hold his Assembly seat.The MLA had been staying away from public life at his home in Adoor since the allegations surfaced.His presence comes amid sharp differences within the Congress on whether he should attend the session. Opposition leader VD Satheesan had earlier objected to his participation.Mamkootathil resigned as Youth Congress state president after Malayalam actor Rini Ann George accused “a young leader” of a major political party of misbehaviour, sparking protests by the BJP and the CPI(M)’s youth wing, the DYFI.Police intervened and removed the SFI workers from the road, allowing normal movement to resume.
