A former Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl champion who comes from one of the most athletic families in sports has died.
The former defensive tackle Arthur Jones, the oldest of the Jones siblings, died at the age of 39, according to the Ravens.
“We are terribly saddened to learn of Arthurs Jones’ sudden passing,” the statement from Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta read. “Arthur’s presence was a gift to everyone he encountered. His big bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others.”
“He was kind courteous and enthusiastic, always displaying a love for family, teammates and friends. we send our deepest condolences to the Jones family and all who loved Arthur.”
Jones played in the NFL from 2010-2017 after a college career at Syracuse earned a fifth round selection by the Ravens in 2010.
Standing at 6-foot-3, 320 pounds, Jones was a key part of the Baltimore defensive line that won Super Bowl XLVII.
He finished his career with 173 tackles, 10 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. He officially announced his retirement from the NFL in 2017.
His younger brother, Jon Jones, is widely considered the greatest UFC fighter of all-time, sporting a career record of 28-1 with the only loss being a disqualification.
His youngest brother, Chandler Jones, was a standout defensive end in the NFL, making four Pro Bowls, two All-Pro teams and winning a Super Bowl with the Patriots.
No cause of death has been revealed.
