Mast plan for Stourbridge Rugby Club and home of popular Stourfest music show

Applicant Cornerstone has asked South Staffordshire Council for permission to put up a lattice mast with for six antennas, six cabinets, one electric metre cabinet and two global positioning system (GPS) modules located within a fenced compound plus ancillary work at the sports ground in Bridgnorth Road in Stourton near Kinver. This is to replace an existing mast at Stourton Park.

If given the green light it will replace equipment installed on an existing National Grid electricity pylon off the A458.

The application states that consultation was being carried out with the ward councillors for Kinver and Enville, Kingswinford and South Staffordshire MP Mike Wood and Kinver Parish Council and that documents comprising letters and drawings of the proposals were sent to these parties by email in July.

Cornerstone further states the proposal includes an International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) declaration in keeping with Ofcom regulations.

“This ICNIRP declaration takes into account the cumulative effect of the emissions from the proposed installation and all radio base stations present at, or near, the proposed location.

“All operators of radio transmitters are under a legal obligation to operate those transmitters in accordance with the conditions of their license. Operation of the transmitter in accordance with the conditions of the license fulfils the legal obligations in respect of interference to other radio systems, other electrical equipment, instrumentation, or air traffic systems.

“The conditions of the license are mandated by Ofcom, an agency of national government, who are responsible for the regulation of the civilian radio spectrum. The remit of Ofcom also includes investigation and remedy of any reported significant interference,” the developer states.

A decision over the mast renewal bid will be made by planners at a future date.

The deadline for objections and comments relating to the application (reference numbe 25/00685/TEL) is October 8 and representations can be submitted via email to planning@sstaffs.gov.uk.

All representations will be made publicly available. In the event of an appeal that proceeds by way of the expedited procedure, any representations made about the application will be passed to the Secretary of State and there will be no opportunity to make further representations.

Stourbridge started the season with successive wins after beating Lichfield 17-10 in the Regional 1 Midlands league. The ground is also home to the popular spring music event Stourfest which this year attracted thousands of music fans keen to hear their favourite cover acts.
