Vijay Sethupathi is all set to return with a brand new season of Bigg Boss Tamil. The actor stepped in as host in Season 8, took over from Kamal Haasan and seems like he’s going nowhere for a while.

Bigg Boss Tamil 9 Premiere Date
After much anticipation, JioHotstar has finally announced the premiere date on social media. Season 9 of Bigg Boss Tamil will kick off with a grand launch on October 5.
Sharing a striking launch poster featuring Vijay Sethupathi, the platform wrote, “பாக்க பாக்க தான் புரியும்… போக போக தான் தெரியும்…Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9 | Grand Launch – அக்டோபர் 5 முதல்,” which translates to, “You will understand only by watching, and you will realise as it goes on.”

When and Where To watch Bigg Boss Tamil 9
Apart from streaming on JioHotstar, Bigg Boss Tamil 9 will also air on Vijay Television. The official telecast timings are yet to be announced.
Details about this season’s theme and contestants remain under wraps, but fans are eager to see Vijay Sethupathi’s trademark charisma and engaging hosting style, which is expected to keep audiences hooked once again.
What You Need To Know About Bigg Boss Tamil
Bigg Boss Tamil first premiered in 2017 with Kamal Haasan as the host, a role he held for seven successful seasons. In 2024, Vijay Sethupathi took over for Season 8 after Kamal stepped away.
Over the years, the reality series has crowned winners like Arav, Riythvika, Mugen Rao, Aari Arjunan, Raju Jeyamohan, Mohammed Azeem, Archana Ravichandran and Muthukumaran Jegatheesan.
The Tamil franchise also expanded with spin-offs. In 2022, it launched Bigg Boss Ultimate on OTT, hosted first by Kamal and later by Silambarasan TR. Seasons 2 and 8 featured Bigg Boss Fun Unlimited, where evicted contestants were interviewed, while Bigg Boss Kondattam, aired after every finale, reunites housemates for a celebratory special.
Vijay Sethupathi’s Workfront
On the acting front, Vijay Sethupathi was last seen in the romantic action-comedy Thalaivan Thalaivii, where he starred alongside Nithya Menen under the direction of Pandiraj.
Currently, he is shooting for his upcoming film with director Puri Jagannadh, tentatively titled PuriSethupathi. The project is expected to be a high-octane action entertainer featuring Samyuktha and Tabu in key roles.
Adding to his busy slate, Sethupathi also has Train, directed by Mysskin, lined up for release.
