Grand Strand Happenings: Fall brings festivals, a bike rally and more

Fall marks the end of what’s known as the tourist season in the Myrtle Beach area. The traffic has died down and shops at spots like Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing are closing earlier. But there are still plenty of things going on to get you out and about.

In September and October, festivals abound on the Grand Strand. The options are wide open: Arts and crafts and motorcycle rallies, cultural and crustacean food events, a car show with an English accent and more. You can also check out an iconic rock vocalist with his band on a tour stop.

There’s always something fun to do in here. You just need to know where to look.

ATALAYA FESTIVAL TURNS 50

From Sept. 26-28, head to Huntington Beach State Park for the 50th Annual Atalaya Arts & Crafts Festival. There, you can explore the offerings of more than 100 artists and artisans, groove to the tunes of local musicians and indulge your appetite in a food court, including burgers and hot dogs, fried fish, jerk chicken, pretzels, smoothies and more.

This year’s entertainment features Kennady Murlin, Sweet Sweet, Austin Perry, the Melissa Joiner Duo, Fair Trade and Mark McKinney & Co.

The festival runs from noon until 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Daily admission is $10 (16 and older) and free for 15 and under. For everything you need to know, visit www.southcarolinaparks.com/huntington-beach/atalaya-festival.

GET YOUR MOTOR RUNNING

Celebrate that distinctive V-Twin rumble as the Myrtle Beach Fall Bike Week – aka “The Pilgrimage” or The Fall Rally – returns from Sept. 26 – Oct. 3 with the official kickoff on Sept. 29. It’s typically a smaller rally than its spring sibling.

Expect custom bike shows, scenic rides, parties, vendors, live music and more, with many of the festivities taking place at The Beaver Bar and Suck Bang Blow in Murrells Inlet.

Don’t miss the vendor village at Barefoot Landing with libations and live music on the deck at House of Blues Myrtle Beach. Other venues include Captain Archie’s in North Myrtle Beach, Spokes and Bones and Big T’s Saloon in Murrells Inlet, and so many more.
