Store owner killed by a thief had worked hard to support family: Mattydale Express store owner Emad Alharbi was fatally shot after he confronted a shoplifter stealing two canisters of nitrous oxide on Sunday, deputies said. Alharbi, who was born in Yemen and moved to Syracuse when he was a toddler, leaves behind a wife, three children and additional family. “He was a provider,” his brother said. “He always looked out for people, you know, even the customers at the store. He treated everybody like my family.”

Micron groundbreaking now set for end of 2025: It’s looking increasingly unlikely that Micron Technology will hit its November target to start work on the company’s proposed semiconductor manufacturing complex in the town of Clay. Severely disabled CNY woman was kept in hot, garbage-filled shed, troopers say: A 75-year-old Hastings woman was arrested Wednesday after troopers say she kept a severely disabled woman confined in a swelteringly hot shed filled with garbage outside a Hastings home this summer. The 46-year-old victim, who was non-verbal and physically disabled, was confined in a shed where temperatures exceeded 100 degrees, troopers said.
60,000 drivers sped through Syracuse’s school zones last month: Over 60,000 drivers were issued warning tickets for speeding in Syracuse school zones during the first two weeks of a new city program aimed to slow down traffic. Those tickets were sent out during a grace period — but if the city enforced those 60,000 tickets, the fines would add up to $3 million. Here are the program’s stats so far.

What made Lawrence Moten so beloved? ‘He embraced Syracuse and they loved him for it’: Lawrence Moten, the all-time leading scorer in Syracuse history and one of the greatest to play for the Orange, was found dead on Tuesday in his Washington, D.C. home at the age of 53. The news of Moten’s death traveled fast within the Syracuse University basketball community. Moten might have been a star at Syracuse, but he carried himself with a humbleness that made him approachable to the average fan and beloved by all who knew him.
