Niger Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, has reaffirmed the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, declaring it “100% an APC state” with no credible threat from the opposition.
Speaking on TVC’s Politics on Sunday with Femi Akande, Bago stressed that the support for President Bola Tinubu remains strong in Niger, crediting the president’s economic reforms and infrastructural push for the state’s ongoing development.
“Everybody knows that it is the support of the president that has brought what we are enjoying now as infrastructural development and growth in agriculture,” the governor said.

Bago also addressed his recent decision to dissolve the state executive council, describing it as part of a mid-term review aimed at strengthening governance. According to him, the move was necessary to evaluate the performance of commissioners based on clearly defined key performance indicators (KPIs).
“Some commissioners performed above the threshold, while others underperformed. To avoid being vindictive, we dissolved the entire cabinet. Some may return, while others will be redeployed to areas where their strengths are better suited,” he explained.
The governor emphasized that his administration is committed to building institutions rather than individuals, noting that permanent secretaries are currently running ministries to ensure continuity.
He maintained that transparency and accountability remain the guiding principles of his government, adding that governance in Niger will not be disrupted by political distractions.
Beyond politics, Bago highlighted the state’s infrastructural projects, including the remodeling of the state secretariat and the expansion of the 84-kilometre Minna–Bida road into a four-lane toll highway, executed through partnerships with international financiers.
He also disclosed that Niger State has quadrupled its internally generated revenue (IGR), now hitting N10 billion monthly, while attracting investments in agriculture and mechanisation.
The governor concluded by reiterating that APC remains firmly in control of Niger State politics, with Tinubu’s reforms paving the way for unprecedented development.
“We are not distracted by politicking. Our focus is governance, building institutions, and delivering development. Niger will continue to stand solidly with the APC,” Bago declared.
