Hong Kong franchised bus operator Citybus has raised salaries for its frontline staff by 2.5 per cent, matching the pay increase offered to all employees by rival KMB.
Citybus, the second largest franchised bus operator in Hong Kong after KMB, said the firm considered factors, such as labour market trends, in adjusting wages and was hopeful the increase would boost morale among its staff members.
Frontline staff, including bus drivers and non-supervisory staff, will receive a guaranteed minimum increase of HK$600 (US$77), according to the firm. The adjustment will take place retroactively from September 1, 2025.
“This adjustment reflects our appreciation for the dedication and contributions of our team,” the firm said.
Frontline staff at a supervisory level, meanwhile, would be entitled to an early adjustment following their annual performance reviews.
In announcing the plan, the firm noted it had considered several factors, including labour market trends, changes in the consumer price index, internal operational challenges and business revenue.
“We hope this announcement will further boost morale among the Citybus team,” the firm said.
The salary increase comes just days after a similar announcement by KMB and sister company Long Win Bus, which stated that it was increasing the salaries of all staff by 2.5 per cent, with a guaranteed raise of no less than HK$600 for its full-time frontline staff.
The firms said they had balanced several factors, including the employment situation in society, changes in the consumer price index, labour market, overall economic situation and operational developments.
