A new assessment from the New York Police Department has warned that political figures, CEOS and other prominent individuals are “vulnerable” when speaking at public events amid the “volatile” environment in the U.S.
The report, first obtained by ABC News from the NYPD’s counterterrorism and intelligence bureau, was released in the wake of the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk last week, amid what the assessment described as an “increasingly volatile threat environment in the U.S.”
It warned that there were “ongoing concerns over the targeting of and violent threats” against public figures who “remain vulnerable at open-air speaking engagements and public events, which have been targeted by malicious actors seeking to advance political or ideological agendas and/or draw attention to unique personal grievances through violence.”
