British Championship Wrestling boss dedicates East Kilbride show to hero dad

British Championship Wrestling boss Graham McKay will welcome a star-studded line-up to East Kilbride this month for an extra special show dedicated to his late father. Some of the UK’s best wrestlers will be in action at the Ballerup Hall on Saturday, October 25 including Gladiators Finalist Wesley Nsereko who will join the ITV show’s live tour at the Glasgow Hydro this December. BCW’s April show almost didn’t go ahead following the sad passing of Graham’s dad Jim who died just hours before the event was due to start. Suffering from vascular problems, Jim died peacefully at Hairmyres Hospital surrounded by his family, aged 72. But, honouring his father’s dying wish, Graham bravely took to the stage and will dedicate this month’s show to his hero who has always supported his dreams. Graham added: “My last show in April I made go ahead with not a lot of people knowing my dad had just passed away hours earlier, but he made me promise that my show must go on. “My head was all over the place but I still stood up and made sure I made his wish come true, so this one certainly is dedicated to him and the way he stood behind me and supported me all the way through the years. When he was in better health he attended every Ballerup show.” With the council venue set to be demolished in 2026 as part of the masterplan for the regeneration of the town centre, this will be one of the last remaining shows BCW will have in the place where it all began. The wrestling company has hired out the venue for 21 years and entertained hundreds of local fans at 87 shows. BCW boss Graham McKay said: “We don’t know the status of the Ballerup Hall as we do know its due to be demolished in 2026, but just don’t know when or how many shows we may have left in that iconic building. “It’s heartbreaking to know that its set to go. Most of our top wrestlers started in that hall at a young age and it certainly helped mould them into what they have become today. I’m actually dreading the day it goes.” Also headlining the October show will be BCW original Wolfgang who returns for more grappling action after years in the US wrestling for WWE. BCW heavyweight champion Daz Black, Angel Hayze, Rhio, Kenny Williams and Rampage Brown are also on the bill. Tickets cost £12.50 or 4 for £40 and are available via www.ringsideworld.co.uk or in-store at Castle Comics in East Kilbride shopping centre. *Don’t miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
