Hansal Mehta Compares Gandhi’s Success With The 2012 Movie Shahid
Alongside the post, the director of the series wrote, “On my way back to Mumbai with the fondest memories from #TIFF50. This time it was not a film, but our show #Gandhi. And yet, watching it on the big screen with that audience, it felt like a complete cinematic experience. That felt so, so special.”
He continued, “The standing ovation, the overwhelming love, the warmth from the TIFF audience. These are moments to cherish forever.”
Mehta drew a parallel between Gandhi and his 2012 directorial Shahid, based on the life of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi, who was assassinated in 2010. The movie premiered at TIFF, which featured Rajkummar Rao in the titular role. Reflecting on the same, the filmmaker penned, “It took me back to 2012 when Shahid premiered here and gave me a new lease of life.”
