TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian Batik Museum at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in Jakarta serves as a platform to introduce the rich cultural heritage of Indonesia to the younger generation and tourists. Inaugurated on October 2, 2023, the museum was established as a follow-up to UNESCO’s recognition of Indonesian batik on October 2, 2009, when it was listed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.The museum construction began in 2014 under the Ministry of Education and Culture and was completed in 2018. It is currently managed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.The building’s layout is designed to resemble folds of cloth, while the museum’s facade is adorned with various batik motifs, including the kawung motif. The museum’s permanent exhibition space is divided into seven sections, namely the Nusantara Batik History Room, Nusantara Batik Heritage Room, Batik Making Techniques Room, Traditional Batik Usage Room, Batik Development Room, the Fame Gallery, and the Conclusion Room.Getting to the Indonesian Batik Museum The museum can be reached by private vehicle or public transportation. The nearest Transjakarta bus stops are Halte Garuda Taman Mini and Halte TMII Gate 3. Additionally, you can access the museum via the KRL Commuter Line, with the final destination being Tanjung Barat Station.But the distance between Tanjung Barat Station and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah is approximately 7 kilometers. Visitors will need to continue their journey using the T19 public transportation or online transportation. Another option is the LRT Cibubur Line, with the museum being only 2 kilometers from Taman Mini Station.The Indonesian Batik Museum is open from Monday to Sunday from 09:00 a.m. to 03:00 p.m. Entry to the museum is free, and visitors only need to purchase a TMII entrance ticket for Rp25,000.00 (weekday) or Rp35,000.00 (weekend).For those bringing a private vehicle, there is a separat far excluding the individual tickets.
