Confusion continues over COVID vaccines and guidelines from federal and state

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Recently there has been confusion over who can get the COVID-19 vaccine. If you tried to set up an appointment with your pharmacist, there may have been some difficulty.
As of right now, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and Eau Claire City-County Health Department continues to recommend the vaccine for those six-months and older.
Health officials in Eau Claire are still waiting on further clarity on the guidelines considering the federal guidelines are more restrictive on who is eligible for the vaccine.
Despite this, the vaccine is more readily available for those who are 65 years and older and those who are living with a health condition.
“There’s still a lot of uncertainty on where we can tell people to go. We want them first to check with their provider always, check with their insurance, and then those that are underinsured or don’t have insurance can call the health department for information,” said Kristy Polden, public health nurse with the City-County Health Department.
She said it is not clear when clarity on the guidelines will come.
