Daylight saving time starts on Sunday. Here's when clocks go forward and where

It’s that time of year again — daylight saving.

To get you up to speed, here’s a quick rundown about what happens where you are and when.

When does daylight saving start in 2025?

Daylight saving will start at 2am on October 5.

That means at 2am, your clock will jump forward to 3am AEDT (Australian Eastern Daylight Time).

Are the clocks going forward or backwards?

The clocks will move forward by one hour.

Most clocks linked to technology such as smart phones, computers, and TVs will automatically adjust to their relevant time zones.

But analogue clocks such as the ones on your oven and microwave will most likely need to be manually adjusted.

Which states and territories have daylight saving?

In Australia, clocks will move forward by one hour in:

Australian Capital TerritoryNew South WalesSouth AustraliaTasmaniaVictoria

These states will lose an hour of sleep on October 5.

Norfolk Island does switch over to daylight saving time, but Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands do not.

The Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia do not observe daylight saving time.

When does daylight saving end?

Daylight saving will end on Sunday, April 5 2026 when clocks are turned back to 2am AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time).
