My father celebrated my downfall when I got injured says ex-Bosso winger Gabriel Nyoni

BULAWAYO – Former Highlanders and CAPS United winger Gabriel Nyoni has made a shocking revelation, saying his own father celebrated his downfall after he suffered a horrific injury that eventually ended his football career.

Nyoni sustained a Lisfranc fracture during a league game against Richards Bay FC in South Africa in February 2021 while playing for Cape Umoya.

He underwent surgery, with two wires and three screws inserted into his right leg.

Although he recovered, the injury ultimately pushed him into early retirement.

Revealing his ordeal on Facebook, Nyoni said his father was happy about his setback, which led to the premature end of his career.

“When I was injured, my father celebrated my downfall. My fans whispered hope, telling me I still had a chance. God confirmed it: you still can. And today, every drop of sweat proves I truly can,” Nyoni posted.

He added: “My journey is not just about football — it’s about resilience, about refusing to let pain define me. If you’re reading this, let my story remind you: no one has the final say over your life except God. See you next year, stronger than ever.”

Nyoni is currently based in South Africa, where he runs a business and remains involved in other football-related activities.
