Former Strictly Come Dancing star Pasha Kovalev has admitted that he misses taking part in one activity with his wife, Rachel Riley, but has reached a point where they don’t have to feel “guilty”. The Latin and ballroom dancer spoke during an interview alongside four other renowned figures from the dancing world and former Strictly stars: Vincent Simone, Brendan Cole, James Jordan, and Ian Waite. During the conversation, Pasha provided readers with an insight into his domestic life with the Countdown presenter, with whom he shares two daughters, Maven and Noa, and discussed how he manages his fitness routine at home. Given his career, one might expect that dancing forms part of their daily routine. However, Pasha revealed that he and Rachel don’t get as many chances to dance together as they would prefer. Speaking to Heat magazine, Pasha said: “I don’t go to the gym or dance. I’m perfect the way I am. Just kidding – I work out at home a little. As soon as I start working out, the kids start jumping on me, and I modify the exercises to fit two little monkeys on my shoulder. It’s fun.” He went on: “Rachel and I don’t dance together as much as we want to. But now they’re at the age where we can go out without feeling guilty about leaving them with my mum or a babysitter, we’re looking into doing more dancing.” He noted that they relish the occasional “cheeky salsa”, describing the dance as their “guilty pleasure”. Rachel recently chatted to WalesOnline about the changing family dynamics she experiences with her husband and children. Pasha and Rachel initially crossed paths in 2013 whilst competing together on the BBC show. She discussed how she balanced motherhood with her work life and noted how it’s “always changing”, as their routine changes as the kids get older and start undertaking different activites. Rachel also disclosed that she operates as a freelancer based in London but travels north to Manchester for Countdown filming . Meanwhile, Pasha occasionally works during evening hours or goes on tour. Rachel described it as a “weird juggle” but mentioned they do manage to find moments to dance “around the kitchen”. Her children also love viewing footage of them on Strictly, though seeing Pasha perform live on stage prompted some curiosity. “I took them both to his show, the little one had never seen him dance on stage, so she was just full of questions the whole time,” Rachel recalled. “[It was] question, question, question, question.” Speaking about her children’s potential future paths, Rachel noted that you simply cannot predict “what they’re going to do” as they grow up, but you hope to encourage them with “whatever they decide they like”. You can next catch Pasha and Rachel on Celebrity Antiques Road Trip on BBC Two on Saturday, September 20, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
