BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (WIS) – Blythewood’s newest school laid the foundation for its future on Thursday night.
American Leadership Academy Blythewood, a K-12 charter school, will open next fall on the sprawling campus where a South Carolina DMV branch closed this summer.
ALA Blythewood welcomed hundreds on Thursday to the future site of the school to meet with administrators and learn more about the campus.
The massive charter school will be home to more than 3,000 students, and is the second American Leadership Academy school in the Midlands. ALA Lexington opened two years ago.
It will be located right across from the new Scout Motors plant, as the area is expected to see continued growth over the next few years.
“We really only come where families are asking for us to come,” Abigail Strait, Vice President of Operations at Charter One, said. “That’s what we’ve experienced in Blythewood.”
Charter One, an education management organization that operates ALA, said the values-based curriculum emphasizes respect, accountability, integrity, service and excellence.
“One of the things that sets us apart really is our leadership curriculum and our RAISE values,” Strait said. “That is really why parents choose us, and we’re so excited that the Blythewood community has just welcomed us with open arms.”
Applications will be open in November.
Administrators say there will be additional info sessions for families in the lead-up to the school’s opening.
