Gunmen rob food vendors, customers at Diego Martin Community Centre

Food vendors and patrons at a community centre in Diego Martin were robbed at gunpoint just after midnight on Saturday, when a group of masked men stormed the compound and escaped with cash, jewellery, phones and other valuables.

Police said the robbery occurred around 12 a.m. on September 20 at the Diego Martin Central Community Centre, located at Jasper Avenue and Wendy Fitzwilliam Boulevard, Diamond Vale.

A gold Nissan Almera, registration number PCS 5663, drove into the compound and four armed men wearing masks and bandanas exited, while the driver remained in the vehicle. The assailants announced a robbery and ordered persons present to hand over their belongings.

Among the victims were staff of two food outlets, Wing It and Cruisin Cuisine, and customers who were purchasing items or liming at the centre.

The robbers took a quantity of cash, a tablet of unknown brand, jewellery, and several mobile phones, including a purple iPhone 11 valued at $1,700 and a Samsung A22 valued at $1,500. They also stole the key to a white Nissan AD Wagon belonging to one of the victims.

The group then re-entered the waiting vehicle, which sped off east along Wendy Fitzwilliam Boulevard, then south onto St. Lucien Road.
