Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home

Documentary charting the final chapter of the late rocker’s life

Certificate: pg

The heavy metal pioneer, legendary bat eater and Birmingham’s favourite son Ozzy Osbourne sadly died last month at the age of 76, shortly before the airing of this one-hour documentary. It was originally intended to be a series, filmed over three years, following Ozzy and the family – wife Sharon and grown-up children Jack and Kelly – as Ozzy prepared for his return to the stage after more than six years.

After 25 years living in Los Angeles, he and Sharon had decided the time had come to return hometo the English country house in Buckinghamshire where they once brought up their family. Battling health issues including a Parkinson’s diagnosis, Ozzy was also determined to fulfil his dream of performing in his home town of Birmingham, and against the odds, he pulled it off. His homecoming concert with his Black Sabbath bandmates at Villa Park football stadium on Saturday 5 July was a triumph.

Here, we follow the Osbournes as they moved back to the UK and Ozzy worked heroically to get himself fit enough to perform. It’s clear that his health was deteriorating, and this film has evolved into an intimate portrait of a family we know are on the cusp of bereavement.

Originally due to be shown in mid-August, the BBC delayed the film to ‘respect the family’s wishes’. (60 minutes)
