A teenager who allegedly attacked an arena employee during a rap concert is facing charges.
According to KCTV 5 in Kansas City, the teenager has been charged with felony assault and misdemeanor assault after the incident at the NBA Youngboy concert at T-Mobile Center on Sept. 21 was captured on video and went viral on social media.
The video showed the minor violently assaulting 66-year-old Thomas Schlange, who was working at the concert and allegedly was trying to get the teen to return to his assigned seat.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help Schlange, who apparently is unable to work after suffering damage to his eyes and face in the attack. More than $13,500 has been raised.
“We are devastated for the injustice of this person and other attendees that didn’t stop that guy at all,” the fundraiser said. “Anything will help. God bless you.”
A representative for T-Mobile center called the incident “horrific” in a statement to the TV station.
“The safety of our employees and guests remains our top priority. Safety protocols are reviewed for every event, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement regarding this matter,” it said.
“This isolated incident does not reflect our venue, our city, or the thousands of guests of all ages who enjoyed the show without incident. Violence of any kind is unacceptable at T-Mobile Center, and we remain committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all.”
