2 Atlantic County mosquito pool samples positive for EEE

Two different mosquito pool samples collected from resting boxes, one on Green Bank Road in Mullica Township and another on Griscom Mill Road in Corbin City, were positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), according to the Atlantic County Division of Public Health.
EEE is most typically found in horses. Much like the West Nile virus, it can be transmitted to humans through infected mosquitos. Symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, behavioral changes and drowsiness.
Mosquito pool samples collected last week from Buena and Corbin City have been confirmed positive for West Nile virus, Atlantic County officials said Wednesday.

County public health and mosquito control officials are conducting surveillance and implementing additional control measures, county officials said.
No human cases for EEE have been confirmed in Atlantic County this year. Two human cases of West Nile were identified, officials said.
There are no vaccines or treatments for either disease, the county said. Residents can help reduce their risk by following these tips:
Use insect repellent when going outdoors.
Rid properties of mosquito breeding grounds by draining standing water. Buckets, bird baths, flower pots and other containers can hold water and provide an ideal environment for mosquitoes.
Clean clogged gutters, and check and repair screen doors.
