Jockey George Wood was singing as Run Boy Run rock n’rolled to Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup success and sealed him an incredible double. And the overjoyed jockey was able to savour a sweet hat-trick with Candy winning Silver and Liverpool also victorious in football’s Merseyside Derby against Everton . Wood, trainer Richard Spencer and owner Phil Cunningham were in Scottish dreamland as they bagged both big races. Candy won the Ladbrokes Silver Cup before Run Boy Run claimed the £180,000 showpiece to secure a 116-1 major double. Wood: “I think, 11 runners in total and it’s nice to come away with the two big ones. It’s good for Richard and Phil.” His mood was bettered by the Anfield result and he added: “It’s been awesome, yeah. We’re playing well this season and keep it up.” Spencer said: “He [Run Boy Run] ran in the Portland the other day, ran really well and George and I had a chat after and he was sort of thinking he didn’t go hard enough. I said to him we were going to rock and roll. With the draw, obviously, we thought we were on the wrong side, but he’s very fast and holds a good cruising speed. George gave him a great ride and it’s great. “We came up here with a lot of chances and I didn’t think we’d wait until Saturday to get a winner, but the team at home have done a great job, it’s been great. The team here have done a really good job and we just can’t thank everyone for their hard work, we play a small part, anyway.” Catching The Moon landed Scotland’s only Group race winning the Firth of Clyde 21 years after trainer Richard Fahey first won the contest. Thunder Roar got favourite backers off a flyer before Almeric also landed favouritism at 13/8 in the Doonside Cup. Jockey Oisin Murphy said: “He’s obviously a bit ring rusty, but he came into the race nicely. With the time off the track, he should be sharper next start. There will be [more to come]. When you make racehorses, this is what they are supposed to look like.” Here’s the results and placings in FULL from a thrilling day. 1. Thunder Roar 5/1 fav 2. Theoryofeverything 9/1 3.
