CSL chairman briefs PM about joint project with Korea’s leading shipyard

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has said it is considering setting up what it calls next-generation shipbuilding facilities in Kochi in collaboration with Hyundai Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co. Ltd (HD KSOE), South Korea’s leading shipyard.

Madhu S. Nair, chairman and managing director, CSL, briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the proposed project on the sidelines of the ‘Samudra se Samriddhi’ event at Bhavnagar, Gujarat, on Saturday (September 20).

In July, CSL signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hyundai KSOE for a long-term collaboration in key areas such as joint exploration of new shipbuilding opportunities, sharing of technical expertise, initiatives to enhance productivity and capacity, and joint efforts to upskill and strengthen the workforce.

CSL in a tweet on Saturday said the proposed project “will be a big boost to India’s march towards becoming a globally leading shipbuilding nation and bring in new technologies, automation, and more employment opportunities.”

The briefing was done in the presence of Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shantanu Thakur.

CoPA holds special event

The Cochin Port Authority (CoPA) on Saturday organised a special event dedicated to the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 as part of the Samudra Se Samriddhi event. The PM’s event was streamed live at the special meet held at the Merchant Navy Club Auditorium, Willingdon Island. B.
