New Delhi: US President Donald Trump on Friday September 19 increased the annual fee for H-1B visas to $100000. This rule will particularly affect Indians working at major US tech companies. While signing the bill at the White House Trump stated that its purpose was to create jobs for Americans. The administration later stated that this would protect American workers and allow companies to hire truly exceptional and talented individuals.
Trump launches Gold Card
The US awards 85000 H-1B visas annually through a lottery system. Approximately three-quarters of these are awarded to Indians. Trump has also launched a new visa system called the Gold Card for foreigners who wish to live and work in the USA. Trump said The Gold Card will bring in billions of dollars and allow companies to retain the expertise they need. According to the White House this card will be available to successful businessmen investors and entrepreneurs.
The Trump Gold Card is a visa based upon an individual’s ability to provide a substantial benefit to the United States. To apply an applicant must pay a nonrefundable processing fee. Once an applicant’s processing fee is received the process for visa adjudication will take place assuming applicants submit additional documents promptly. If approved an individual must make a gift of $1 million which has been determined to provide sufficient evidence that the individual will substantially benefit the United States.
How to get a Gold Card?
A non-refundable fee will be required upon application. If approved a deposit of $1 million will be required which is approximately Rs 88091800. With the Gold Card you can travel and live in all 50 US states. It is being reported that these cards may eventually replace the Green Card which allows foreigners to live and work in the USA.
Platinum Card
This will also be for businessmen investors and entrepreneurs but will offer more benefits. Registration for it has not yet begun. When it does it will be on a first-come first-served basis. Upon approval you will have to pay $5 million or approximately Rs 440459000. This allows you to stay in the US for up to 270 days a year without paying US income tax.
Corporate Gold Card
This card is for companies that want to hire foreign employees. The fee is $2 million or approximately Rs 166 crore per employee. The company will have to pay a non-refundable fee for each employee. There will also be a small annual maintenance fee and a transfer fee.
