One Direction stars Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have sent fans into a frenzy after reports they are reuniting for a special upcoming project. The pair will be collaborating on a multi-million pound Netflix road trip documentary which will see the former bandmates travel across the US together. The documentary is set to offer a personal glimpse into Louis and Zayn’s inner lives as they discuss romance, art, friendship, and the tragic death of their fellow bandmate, Liam Payne . The short film is expected to drop in 2026, which will mark exactly a decade since One Direction split up. Other members Harry Styles and Niall Horan are not currently believed to be involved in the project. A source told The Sun : “This will be an absolutely huge show for Netflix and is guaranteed to whip 1D’s global army of fans into a frenzy. “Although the idea of -British boyband members doing a show about travelling across America sounds random, most of them now have strong links Stateside. “And it’s likely to be a chance for some serious soul-searching and deep discussions about the incredible journey the group have already been on since they were formed on The X Factor 15 years ago.” Louis and Zayn’s reconciliation has delighted long time fans who will remember their very public falling out when Zayn left the band in 2015. Their project comes a year after Liam Payne tragically died at 31-years-old on October 15 2024. The singer fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, leaving millions across the globe devastated by his sudden passing. Zayn, Louis, Niall, and Harry all attended his funeral at St. Mary’s Church in Amersham, as Payne’s loved ones held a private service. The Netflix documentary is expected to Louis and Zayn’s experience grieving their former bandmate, as well as their personal lives. Zayn has gradually stepped back from the spotlight in recent years after his One Direction fame. However, he released his fourth solo album, Room Under the Stairs, in 2024, showcasing a more stripped-back, introspective sound. Last year, he also performed his first solo concert since leaving the band in 2015 and launched the Stairway to the Sky Tour. The US dates were postponed after Liam Payne’s death and Zayn has since announced a seven-night Las Vegas residency set for early 2026. Aside from music, Zayn has been co-parenting his daughter Khai who he shares with his ex-partner Gigi Hadid. Meanwhile, Louis has kept a very active music career. In 2023 and 2024 he embarked on his Faith in the Future world tour and in April 2024, he surprised fans by releasing Live, his first live album, comprised of performances recorded during his tours. Just last month, he dropped his new single Lemonade, which is the lead track for his third studio album, How Did I Get Here?, which is slated for release on 23 January 2026. He has also announced his How Did We Get Here? world tour which is set to run from March to July 2026. Louis has also been more open about his personal life, having recently called out online rumours affecting his family and relationships, as well as his relationship with his girlfriend Zara McDermott.
