Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, hard work, and mutual support to uplift the nation and ensure the success of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary celebration held at the State House, Marina, Lagos, on Wednesday, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the need for collective responsibility in building the nation.
“The task before us is to build, not to tear down; to unite, not to divide; and to inspire, not to despair. We believe this country is great. We believe in its potential, and we are confident that if we all work together, Nigeria’s full potential is realisable,”the governor said.
He urged citizens to recommit themselves to the core values of unity, diligence, and respect, adding that these values are crucial to achieving a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
“As we mark this 65th independence anniversary, let us rededicate ourselves to the ideals of unity, hard work, and mutual respect. In our words, actions, and decisions, let us all contribute to building a Lagos and indeed a Nigeria that works for everyone,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The governor commended President Tinubu for what he described as responsive leadership and strategic interventions aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians. He expressed Lagos State’s unwavering support for the Tinubu-led federal government.
“We in Lagos are proudly behind the President’s policies. We see the positive impact of his leadership. We will continue to work with the federal government to ensure the real dividends of democracy are delivered, especially through stronger collaboration between national and sub-national levels,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Highlighting early signs of economic improvement, the governor noted a downward trend in inflation, foreign exchange rates, food prices, and insecurity across the country.
“We are beginning to see positive changes inflation is easing, the naira is stabilising, food prices are declining, and insecurity is reducing. These are early but important signs that Nigeria is on the right path,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu also reassured foreign investors of Lagos State’s readiness to accommodate and support business ventures, citing the provision of critical infrastructure, improved security, and an enabling environment as key achievements of his administration.
“We want investors to see Lagos as the destination of choice. We have put in place the right structures — from security to social amenities — to ensure that investments here are safe and profitable,” the governor said.
