A landmark Bolton building currently used as church and a social enterprise centre has been put up for sale. Commerce House, on Bridgeman Place, described in marketing material as ‘a striking building steeped in history’ is being listed ahead of an auction with a minimum opening bid price of £270,000. The building, originally built in 1913, to become the offices of the Lancashire & Cheshire Miners Federation, is billed by estate agents Auction House North West as ‘a landmark opportunity in Bolton ’. Their website states that they ‘help communities develop access to education, skills and social enterprise’. The first floor of the building is used by the Loveworld Church, Bolton, as a place of worship. A marketing brochure, ahead of an online auction between October 14 and 15, said: “The building retains many original features and is currently occupied as a business and social enterprise centre. “The sellers are attempting to obtain vacant possession and the requisite notice has been served on the tenants but they cannot guarantee this will be delivered prior to completion.” The sales brochure describes the ground floor as having a spacious entrance hall leading to a grand staircase, offices and open plan conference room with kitchen and toilets. The first floor has a main hall currently used as a place of worship The basement and lower ground floor has offices, kitchen, toilets, boiler and meter rooms. An annexe has an open plan living and dining room to ground floor plus three bedrooms, kitchen and shower room on the first floor. The building, which is 10,092 sqft is described as ‘considered suitable for a variety of uses, subject to planning permission’.
