If you’re trying to outgrow Nvidia (NVDA) and Palantir (PLTR) — that’s a lofty goal. But some S&P 500 companies are likely to pull it off in the third quarter.
Eight S&P 500 stocks, including Expand Energy (EXE), KeyCorp (KEY) and Robinhood Markets (HOOD), are expected to post more than 60% revenue growth in the upcoming third-quarter earnings reporting season, says an Investor’s Business Daily analysis of data from S&P Global Market Intelligence and MarketSurge.
Not only is that the fastest expected growth this quarter. It outstrips the 55.6% expected revenue growth in the quarter by Nvidia and 50.5% growth by Palantir. Nvidia and Palantir are two of the hottest stocks in the S&P 500 this year, rising 39% and 144%, respectively.
Blistering Demand For Energy
Higher oil prices and off-the-hook demand for energy to power new AI models is taxing the entire power grid.
Expand Energy, an Oklahoma City-based producer of oil and natural gas is a big presumed winner. Analysts think the company’s revenue will surge 402% to $2 billion. Much of the growth is also powered by the company’s roughly $7 billion purchase of Southwestern Energy in October 2024.
Surprisingly, the chart hasn’t run up as a result. The RS Rating is still a modest 48. Additionally, since EPS fell in 2024, 2023 and 2022, the EPS Rating is only 74. It appears that investors see the growth as a one-time bump due to the merger.
If you’re looking for more “organic” growth, the winner is Robinhood. The online broker is riding intense interest not only in stocks and bonds, but also crypto and prediction market wagering. Analysts think the company’s revenue will hit $1.2 billion in the third quarter of 2025, up 83% from the same period in 2024. Shares of Robinhood are up 270% this year.
Strength In Financials
Some banks are finding growth amid falling interest rates. Take Cleveland’s KeyCorp.
The bank holding company’s revenue is seen jumping 170% in the third quarter to $1.9 billion. Such robust top-line growth is expected to push EPS up 24% in 2025. And yet, shares are only up 8% this year. And the stock’s RS Rating is just 64.
So while at times it seems only a few stocks matter to the S&P 500, this quarter expect some big growth numbers from some other places.
