Quick takes ahead of Nebraska football vs. Michigan State

Check out quick takes from our Nebraska football writers ahead of the Huskers’ home game against Michigan State.
* * *
Tackling well is key
Michigan State won’t be among the fastest offenses Nebraska’s defense will face, but it doesn’t mean the Spartans are easy to tackle.
In particular, starting running back Mekhi Frazier and lead receiver Nick Marsh are big-bodied guys who can make the first defender miss a tackle.
If a Husker can’t bring those guys down, they’ll need their friends to hustle to the ball.

Plenty of opportunity for Dylan Raiola
Michigan State isn’t scary against the pass.
Not with a secondary that has allowed seven touchdown throws and no interceptions against power-league foes.
Not with a front that has produced zero sacks in those same games.
Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola should have time and space to operate in the pocket while repeating as a 300-yard passer.

Clean up the defense
Nebraska doomed itself by allowing explosive plays on the ground to Michigan.
MSU might not have the same kinds of athletes running the ball, but the Huskers will still have to be cleaner in the simple things on defense.
Being in the right places on run fits, breaking down and tackling well all have to improve for NU to stop Michigan State — or any Big Ten opponent.
