Married at First Sight groom Steven looks almost unrecognisable in a throwback snap taken before the E4 show.
The 34-year-old investment banker, from Essex, has been paired up with 30-year-old Nelly from Manchester. While sparks flew instantly on their big day, the duo later faced a rough patch. In Wednesday’s (October 1) episode the pair faced their first argument after the cast went out for drinks.
Nelly opened up about their conflict, admitting: “I think the last couple of days, I’ve just felt a bit on edge. He’s not been the same as he was on the honeymoon.” She went on to explain that she has been feeling “needy” while Steven had been uncharacteristically “distant”. Other MAFS stars picked up on the bride’s sour mood and encouraged Steven to compliment his new wife.
However, the ex-footballer felt targeted by their comments and later confronted another groom for “getting involved” in his relationship.
Steven explained his frustration, stating: “Last night made me feel a bit uneasy.
“Keye walked in with Nelly, asking me to compliment her. Absolutely no idea why Keye’s got involved.
“I believe Nelly’s said something to the group about our relationship. It needs to stop because it will wind me up more and more if people get involved.”
After watching Steven for hours on end, MAFS fans may take a minute to recognise the reality star in an throwback picture from just last year. In a photo shared on Instagram in March 2024, the TV star is seen rocking blonde streaks instead of his signature dark ‘do.
The mirror selfie features a cryptic caption that reads: “F*** what people think”.
Elsewhere on his social media page, the Essex groom has shared photos from his football days. The father-of-two’s professional career was cut short after he was attacked by a group of men following a night out.
Steven underwent reconstructive surgery on his face and ended his sports career after the injuries. However, he has maintained a positive outlook since the attack.
Writing to his 10,000 Instagram followers, he said: “It may have took me years to get back to a state of mind where I felt happy with myself but nothing will ever break me. Because even at my worst physically and mentally I still overcame it.”
Married at First Sight UK airs Sunday to Thursday on E4 at 9pm
