Justin Long and Kate Bosworth Horror Comedy Coyotes Sells to Signature

“Coyotes,” the horror comedy and survival thriller starring real-life partners Justin Long (“Barbarian”) and Kate Bosworth (“Straw Dogs”), has been bought for the U.K. and Ireland by Signature Entertainment.
The film — from director Colin Minihan (“Grave Encounters,” “What Keeps You Alive”) — recently had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin.
“Coyotes” follows a family trapped in their Hollywood Hills home who must fight for their survival when caught between a raging wildfire and a pack of savage coyotes. It’s billed in the synopsis as an “intense and tightly-paced creature feature meets home invasion thriller, sugar-coated with comedy.”
Alongside Long and Bosworth, it also stars Mila Harris (“Mary”), Brittany Allen (“The Prodigy”) and Katherine McNamara (“Shadowhunters”).
The feature is produced by Ford Corbett (“Sam & Kate”), James Harris (“Fall,” “Marmalade”), Joshua Harris (“We Bury the Dead”), Nathan Klingher (“Land of Bad”) and is written by Tad Daggerhart (T”he Expendables 4″), Daniel Meersand and Nick Simon (“The Pyramid”). Capstone has been handling global sales rights and signed the deal with Signature
“Coyotes is a film that truly delivers, with great performances from Justin Long, Kate Bosworth and their co-stars and brilliantly realized beasts,” said Signature’s chief commercial officer Elizabeth Williams. “At one moment hilarious and the next nail-bitingly intense, we’re confident U.K. and Irish audiences will struggle to find another horror thriller more entertaining than this.”
Speaking to Variety, Bosworth recently revealed that she first read the “Coyotes” script and encouraged Long to get involved.
“My favorite movies are those that ride the razor’s edge of horror and comedy; there’s a mashup of genres,” she said. “This screenplay certainly reads that way. And then when we saw Colin’s ‘What Keeps You Alive,’ which is such a great film. Having worked in this industry for so long, I could tell that he had challenging restraints in certain places, and he chose to contain them in a certain way. It was a real character piece, but obviously in a genre world. I just thought he was such an interesting, talented and capable filmmaker.”
