A popular eyeshadow pallet sold in Ireland has been urgently recalled after safety chiefs discovered dangerous levels of arsenic in some of its shades. The Peach Dreams palette from Irish-owned SOSU Cosmetics, featuring eight peach-coloured powders in a cardboard box with a magnetic closure, has been sold online via the brand’s website. The recall comes after tests revealed that three of the shades – Creme, Sorbet and Peach – contained an “excessive concentration” of arsenic. Experts warn that arsenic exposure may cause cancer , affect fertility or an unborn child and damage organs if contact occurs over a prolonged period. The recall, issued by the European Commission’s Safety Gate last Thursday, September 25, said the product did not comply with the EU Cosmetic Products Regulation, which sets strict limits for chemicals in makeup to protect consumer health. The safety officials explained: “The product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation. The product has an excessive concentration of arsenic in some of the shade powder colours (measured value: 0.94 mg/kg in Creme, 1.2 mg/kg in Sorbet and 0.57 mg/kg in Peach. “Arsenic may cause cancer, may damage fertility or the unborn child, causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure.” The affected palette carries the batch number 20210405, model number SOSU0992 and barcode 5391537262098, and is no longer for sale. Consumers who purchased the product are urged to return it or dispose of it safely. SOSU Cosmetics, founded by Dubliner Suzanne Jackson , launched in 2015 with just a single product and has since has grown to offer a portfolio of over 400 items. Its products are now sold internationally through more than 2,000 stockists, both in stores and online across the EU and UK. According to the company’s website: “SOSU Cosmetics has expanded across cosmetics, making it a one stop shop for categories such as self-tan, nails and false eyelashes, making beauty accessible all under the one destination. The brand bridges the gap between everyday makeup lovers and professional artists, combining innovation, quality and classic makeup bag staples.” Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest news from the Irish Mirror direct to your inbox: Sign up here.
