Shoppers and crisp lovers are urged to double check their labels, after packs of cheese and onion crisps were urgently recalled on the grounds of being a “potential health risk”. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced that One Stop Mature Cheddar & Red Onion Hand Cooked Crisps contain milk, which is not declared on the packaging. This could cause reactions in individuals with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. An FSA notice stated: “If you have bought [this] product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.” The recall affects 150g packs with best before dates of 17th, 18th, and 23rd February, 2026. Approximately one in 50 infants are allergic to cow’s milk, although most outgrow this during childhood. It’s estimated that up to one in 10 adults is lactose intolerant, meaning they can’t digest the sugar found in dairy products, reports the Express . Symptoms of a milk allergy can include hives, swelling, vomiting, and breathing difficulties, typically occurring within minutes of consumption. Allergies can often be managed with antihistamines and by avoiding dairy products. In severe cases, exposure to milk can lead to life-threatening anaphylaxis.
