But after a difficult weekend in Azerbaijan earlier this month, where he crashed out of both qualifying and the race, Stella is confident Piastri will return to form this weekend.
“I’ve worked with multi-champion drivers and in every season, even the most dominant, even one of the best drivers in the history of Formula 1, like Michael Schumacher, I have seen events like this,” Stella told Sky Sports.
“Events in which the most you take away is the learning, because things become, for some reasons, difficult, and as soon as you misjudge the grip available, you get highly punished.
“So, a one-off for what has been probably the most solid driver in this season, a one-off weekend in which things don’t go your way, and you ultimately have lots to review.
“So, it’s no surprise, no exception that we should be worried about, because this has happened to pretty much all champions, even the ones with the best track record.”
The Grand Prix in Singapore is traditionally one of the hottest in the championship, despite being held at night.
And Piastri says that should give the McLarens an advantage as he expressed his eagerness to get back on the grid this weekend.
“I’m very keen to get back in the cockpit,” Piastri said in the lead-up to the weekend.
“On paper, and with the temperatures involved in Singapore, our car has been proven to be comfortable in the past, and with that in mind, I’m looking forward to a really positive weekend.”
Piastri’s best result from his two grands prix in Singapore is third, which he achieved last season.
