Mike Greenberg had some wild comments about Josh Allen

“I’m mad at myself that we spent nine minutes and 17 seconds and I didn’t say this yet,” Greenberg said. “I’ve been watching this sport for 50 years. I’m just fan. I’m just a reporter. Whatever the case is, no one has ever played that position better than Josh Allen plays it. He’s not the greatest player ever. You tell me who played the position better than he plays it.”

Greeberg’s argument is strange. On one hand, he says no one has ever played quarterback better than Allen. On the other hand, he says he’s not the greatest ever.

When pressed about current NFL quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Justin Herbert, Greenberg persisted.

“I’m not saying he’s better than them,” he said. “I’m saying you can’t be better than Josh Allen is. Josh Allen does everything. His command of what he’s doing in the game right now is ridiculous. He just hasn’t won anything. If he had won anything, we’d be talking about him with literally the best quarterbacks that ever played.”

It’s a very strange and circular argument from Greenberg.

Allen is a very talented quarterback and does deserve to be in the conversation about the best players currently in the league. He’s a two-time All-Pro and one-time NFL MVP. But best right now? Best ever? Not so much.

And that whole “winning” thing? That kind of matters when talking about a player being the best of all time.
