Man taken to hospital for head injury after alleged assault with ‘large wooden bat’ in Co Down

A man has been taken to hospital with a head injury after an alleged assault in Co Down . Police received a report that a man in his 40s had been assaulted at a property in Newcastle with a “large wooden black bat”. The man was treated for a head injury and a male in his 50s was arrested in connection with the incident. Inspector Stinton said: “We received a report at approximately 2.45pm on Friday, 19th September that a man had been assaulted at a flat in the Downs Road area of the town. “It’s understood the suspect assaulted the victim, a man aged in his 40s, with a large wooden black bat. “He required hospital treatment for a head injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening. “Officers attended the scene and detained the suspect, a 51-year-old man, within the flat. “He was subsequently arrested and transported to custody for questioning where he remains at this time. “Anyone who witnessed what happened or has information that could help with our enquiries is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 859 19/09/25. “We would also be keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam, CCTV or other footage of the area.” You can also report online at www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org For all the latest news, visit the Belfast Live homepage here and sign up to our daily newsletter here.
