Armed officers stormed an east Manchester estate after a man was shot in the foot overnight . Police were called out to Highgate Crescent, in Gorton , at around 12.15am this morning (September 20). Greater Manchester Police says a 22-year-old man was shot by an unknown offender who fled the scene. Luckily, the victim escaped with just a graze. A cordon is now in place near Highgate Crescent as the investigation steps up. Forensic investigators have been seen carrying out fingertip searches and taking photographic evidence. Detectives do not believe the incident is connected to two shootings in Newton Heath earlier this week, in Ainthorpe Walk and Ballantine Street, which have been linked to each other by investigators. A large police presence remains in attendance this afternoon (Saturday). A GMP spokesperson said: “Officers responded to reports of a firearms discharge on Highgate Crescent in Gorton at around 12:15am this morning (Saturday, September 20). “A man was shot in the foot by an unknown man, who fled from the scene. Firearms officers attend and located a bullet in the victim’s shoe. “Thankfully, the victim suffered only a graze and no serious injuries. We believe this incident is not linked to the firearms discharges in Newton Heath earlier this week.
