Guillermo del Toro is bringing one of literature’s most enduring tales to life in his signature dark, fantastical style. Netflix has dropped the official trailer for Frankenstein, along with striking creature reveal art, offering the first glimpse at the Academy Award-winning filmmaker’s highly anticipated adaptation of Mary Shelley’s gothic masterpiece.
The film will first release in select theatres on October 17, before streaming globally on Netflix from November 7.
A Visionary Take On Mary Shelley’s Classic
Written and directed by del Toro, Frankenstein revisits Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus — a story that has influenced generations of literature, cinema, and pop culture. At its heart, it follows Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant yet arrogant scientist, whose reckless experiment gives birth to a living creature. What begins as a triumph of human ambition soon spirals into a tale of tragedy, obsession, and the catastrophic consequences of defying nature.

The official logline reads: “Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.”
An Ensemble Led By Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi & Mia Goth
The film boasts a stellar cast, with Oscar Isaac taking on the role of Victor Frankenstein, and Jacob Elordi expected to portray the Creature. Rising star Mia Goth, known for her work in Pearl and Infinity Pool, plays a pivotal role, alongside Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.

Produced by Guillermo del Toro, J. Miles Dale, and Scott Stuber, the project has been a long-time passion for the filmmaker. Fans have often speculated about del Toro’s dream of adapting Shelley’s novel, and with this project, he appears to be delivering his most ambitious gothic vision yet.
A First Look At The Creature
Alongside the trailer, Netflix also unveiled a haunting piece of creature reveal art that teases del Toro’s reimagined monster. With its shadowy textures and unsettlingly human design, the artwork hints at the filmmaker’s signature blend of horror and pathos — positioning the Creature as both terrifying and tragic.
With its theatrical release in October just in time for Halloween, and a global Netflix debut in November, Frankenstein is shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated cinematic events. Gothic horror, prestige performances, and Guillermo del Toro’s masterful storytelling promise to breathe new, monstrous life into Shelley’s immortal tale.
