Mohammed Kudus is the leader of a disastrous stat in the Premier League since the start of the 2024/25 seasonThe 24-year-old Ghanaian moved to Tottenham Hotspur from West Ham United in a high-profile transferThe former Ajax man has already his the ground running at the start of the new EPL season, offering two assists so far
One Mohammed Kudus stat might raise eyebrows at first glance, but it perfectly illustrates why Tottenham were willing to gamble on his talent.
The Lilywhites have started the 2025/26 Premier League season brightly and sit inside the top four after three strong outings.
Tottenham’s start reads two wins against Burnley and Manchester City, one loss versus Bournemouth, five goals scored, and only one conceded.
According to Flashscore, this run has placed them fourth in the Premier League, behind only Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool in the early standings.
Thomas Frank owes much of this strong opening to his squad’s standout performances, with Guglielmo Vicario especially shining as he leads all Premier League goalkeepers in saves so far, according to WhoScored, as cited by Spurs Web.
Credit is also due to Brazilian forward Richarlison, who has contributed two goals and an assist in four games, along with Ghanaian playmaker Mohammed Kudus, who is already on two assists.
Yet for the former West Ham man, one particular statistic he tops is a cause for concern.
Tottenham’s Kudus leads worrying EPL dribbling stat
According to data from WhoScored, Mohammed Kudus has amassed more unsuccessful dribbles than any other Premier League player since the beginning of last season.
The Ghanaian leads the chart with 110 failed dribbles — a figure that covers his spells at West Ham United and now Spurs following his £55 million transfer.
In 2023/24, Kudus attempted more dribbles (195) than any other Premier League player. Dribbles accounted for 12.9% of his on-ball actions, and his 47.2% success rate placed him among the most effective high-volume dribblers in the league.
For context, Dejan Kulusevski was Spurs’ only player to reach 100 or more dribble attempts last season, yet his 31.9% success rate was the lowest among that group of 22 players.
Manager Thomas Frank has often stressed the importance of risk-taking, once noting that avoiding risks can be the greatest risk of all. Kudus’ numbers reinforce exactly that philosophy.
Mohammed Kudus may lead the Premier League for failed dribbles, but his willingness to take on defenders also makes him one of the division’s most dangerous ball carriers.
For Tottenham, that blend of risk and reward is exactly what Thomas Frank demands — and it could prove decisive in keeping Spurs among the league’s top challengers this season.
How Kudus can shine at Tottenham
YEN.com.gh earlier highlighted three key factors that could help Mohammed Kudus excel after his big-money move from West Ham.
The Ghanaian has impressed in his first three outings for Spurs, but still has plenty to prove to hit the top level.
