One of Australia’s big four banks has suffered a major technology break with systems shut down and customers unable to process transactions.
The outage is affecting many Commonwealth Bank customers across Australia with people struggling to do any banking.
Branches were effectively shutting down on Thursday afternoon and there have been reports of ATM’s closing themselves automatically.
The Commonwealth Banking app is experiencing issues with many customers struggling to move funds between accounts.
“The auto teller I was at just shut down and I couldn’t get any cash out,” one caller to Sydney’s 2GB said.
Another customer wrote via a text line that they were caught short at the supermarket checkout and could not top up their account to pay for groceries.
Responding to questions from The Nightly, a bank spokesperson said a statement on the outage would be provided as soon as possible.
