NCC cadets shine
Students belonging to the National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, have excelled at the All India Thal Sainik Camp (AITSC) 2025, held in New Delhi recently. Cadets Prathana Purohit and Kavinmathi secured the gold medal in health and hygiene (Senior Wing), leading the Directorate’s team to the first position in the category. Ms. Kavinmathi also clinched the gold medal in public speaking. Meanwhile, cadet Abinaya won the bronze medal in judging distance and field signal. The AITSC, one of the most prestigious NCC events in the country, witnessed the participation of top cadets from 17 directorates, competing in disciplines such as map reading, judging distance, health and hygiene, weapon training and firing. The college management, principal M.V Alli, and associate NCC officer Lt.Dr.S.Ithayamalar, felicitated the victorious cadets.
Cancer awareness programme
P. Sasipriya Govindaraj, consultant radiation oncologist and executive director, Harshamitra Super Speciality Cancer and Multi-Speciality Hospital, emphasised the importance of early detection and prevention of cervical cancer, lifestyle modifications, and timely treatment at an awareness programme organised by Rotary Club of Tiruchi Central and the Rotaract Club of Cauvery College for Women, in association with their partner club, the Rotary Club of Tiruchi Mid-Town, recently. .
Orientation talk
Over 300 students from the departments of Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, and Environmental Sciences at Bishop Heber College were given orientation on employment opportunities in the Forest Services by V. Karthikeyan, a Divisional Forest Officer serving Mizoram recently. In his address, Mr. Karthikeyan shed light on the structure, roles, and challenges of the Indian Forest Service. Cyril Rufus, president, Anamalais Naturalist Forum, spoke about the opportunities available to biologists in the Forest Department.
Biotech conference
Scientists, researchers, and academicians recently participated in a national conference on the theme ‘Future Pandemic Preparedness and Emergency Response through Biotechnological Innovations for a Prosperous India’ at Bishop Heber College recently. The two-day programme was jointly organised by the college’s Department of Biotechnology and the central government’s Department of Science and Technology (DST). The conference proceedings featured 38 oral presentations and 66 poster presentations from researchers.
Memorial Day
N. Vijayasundari, associate professor, Urumu Dhanalakshmi College, spoke about the literary legacy of Tamil poet Subramania Bharathi in her keynote address at the Bharathiar Memorial Day programme held on behalf of Bharathiar Chair of Bharathidasan University recently. The speaker also urged students to follow the poet’s ideology. J. Chandrakala, Convener, Bharathiar Chair, andVelu. Rajesh Kannan, Vice Chancellor Committee Member, spoke.
HR panel discussion
A panel discussion on current and emerging trends in human resource (HR) management organised for undergraduate students by M.A.M. B-School, through its Internal Quality Assurance Cell, helped to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world practices recently. The panellists highlight various challenges in HR management and also gave an overview of job opportunities in the sector.
Literary fiesta
Students from across the city showcased their talent by competing in contests held as part of the JAM Lit Fiesta organised by the English Literary Association (Self-Finance, Women), PG and Research Department of English, Jamal Mohamed College recently. In her presidential address, Anuradha Anand, an eminent writer, poet, and translator from Chennai, encouraged student to cultivate literary perspectives, analytical skills, and research acumen.
Seminar on consumption trends
Sustainable and ethical consumption were in focus at a seminar organised by the Department of Business Administration, National College in Tiruchi recently. Students from over 14 regional and national colleges participated in the programme. P. Subburethina Bharathi, Deputy general manager, Learning and Development, Kauvery Hospital, Tiruchi, spoke on consumer rights, and examples of unfair and restrictive trade practices. In his address, Mr. Richard, highlighted the need to reduce plastic and textile waste. Niranchana Shri Viswanathan, Assistant professor, Department of Management Studies, Sapthagiri NPS University, Bengaluru, focused on the growing shift towards sustainable consumption, driven by stronger consumer rights under the Consumer Protection Act 2019.
Teachers’ Day celebration
The role of educators in shaping the life of students was in focus at the Teachers’ Day celebrations hosted by the state Department of School Education in collaboration with Shrimati Indira Gandhi College recently. In his inaugural address, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, highlighted the importance of adopting innovative teaching practices to meet the demands of the digital era and appreciated the selfless service of teachers. Jayanthasri Balakrishnan, retired professor and reader of English, PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore spoke.
Inter-departmental competition
The student team from the Department of Business Administration, SRM Tiruchi Arts and Science College won the overall championship at ‘COMREW 2K25’, a programme featuring competitions in various categories organised by the institution’s Department of Commerce recently. A total of 150 students registered for the competitions, with 95 participating. Among them, around 60 members advanced to the second round. Principal M. S. R. Mariyappan gave away the prizes.
Flavour festival
Market stalls with over 500 varieties of food, attire, and ornaments kept visitors engaged at a bazaar organised as part of World Flavour Festival celebrations at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts and Science for Women in Perambalur recently. Students also organised screenings of short films and games counters at the bazaar. Chancellor of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, A. Srinivasan tasted the delicacies prepared by the students, and gave away prizes to winning entries.
