Woman arrested after her car strikes boy on scooter: Highland Heights Police Blotter

A caller said Sept. 16 that a child on a scooter was struck by a vehicle near Miner Road and the driver stopped briefly and then returned to her vehicle and left the area.
The child’s father arrived in the area about 20 minutes later and decided that he would take his son to the hospital as a precaution.
The driver of the vehicle was subsequently located and arrested for leaving the scene of an accident. The woman, 84, said that the boy had rode the scooter into her car and she had confirmed that he was OK.
Theft: Wilson Mills Road
Denny’s management reported Sept. 17 that they believed a customer used a universal key to open a cash register at the front of the restaurant about a week earlier.
They said the customer stole $140 and the incident was captured on surveillance video.
Upon investigation, detectives learned that the vehicle used by the suspect belonged to a Cleveland man, 66, who was incarcerated for similar theft convictions. That man had recently transferred ownership of the vehicle to a Euclid woman, who was found to be a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the theft at Denny’s.
The incident remains under investigation as officers work to identify the suspect.
Disturbance: Lander Road
A resident reported around 10 a.m. Sept. 19 that a neighbor came to her door asking that she call police because she had been assaulted at her home in the 800-block.
Responding officers learned that the Mayfield Heights woman had gone to the man’s home to discuss an upcoming child support hearing. While there, she said that they argued and he poured a bottle of Gatorade on her.
The incident was subsequently adjusted with the victim choosing not to pursue charges.
General assistance: Oakview Drive
A resident said Sept. 19 that he discovered a profile and pictures of himself on a website known as sugardaddy.com.
He said that he did not post anything to the site.
Officers learned that the website was a scam.
Theft: Alpha Drive
A business owner said Aug. 19 that a check was stolen out of his mailbox and fraudulently cashed.
He said that he had written the check to a utility company for $139 but that amount was changed to $4,039 and fraudulently cashed in the name of a 20-year-old Euclid woman.
Detectives are investigating.
Juvenile complaints: Alpha Drive
Officers responded Sept. 19 to a report of two boys throwing crab apples at vehicles belonging to construction workers.
He said he had also seen the boys while he was inside of Marathon and watched as they poured fountain drinks and then proceeded to dump them out and refuse to pay when asked by an employee.
Officers located and stopped the two boys briefly in front of Sky Zone before releasing them. They told them that Marathon wanted then banned and they confirmed that the construction workers found no damage to their trucks.
Vandalism: Wilson Mills Road
Headstones were found knocked over at a pet cemetery Sept. 20.
A representative of the cemetery confirmed that there was no damage to them and was able to place them upright.
Disorderly conduct: Wilson Mills Road
A woman reported around 11 p.m. Sept. 20 that a known man had slashed the tires on her vehicle in the Chipotle parking lot.
Responding officers found the suspect on Miner Road. He immediately became irate and yelled for them to shoot him.
Officers were able to calm the Willoughby Hills man, 32, and had him taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.
The victim said that she was in a relationship with him and decided that she did not want to pursue charges.
Theft: Wilson Mills Road
A man reported Sept. 18 that a dolly was stolen from his truck two days earlier while he was making a delivery at Marathon.
He did not notice it missing until he made his next stop.
Surveillance video confirmed that two unknown men stole the dolly, which was valued at $600.
