Kolkata Weather: Will Rain, Gusty Winds Play Spoilsport During Durga Puja Week? Check Forecast

Kolkata may see wet weather through the Durga Puja celebrations, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting cloudy skies and frequent showers till 2 October. From Saturday, 21 September, the city will witness partly cloudy conditions, turning more overcast towards evening with occasional showers. Rainfall activity is expected to pick up after Mahalaya, on 22 September, bringing widespread rain across the city. On 23 and 24 September, light to moderate rain is forecast, with the maximum temperature dropping to nearly 31°C. Despite the frequent spells of rain, Kolkata will remain warm and humid. Daytime temperatures are expected to stay between 29°C and 33°C, while nights will be around 25°C to 28°C. The cloud cover, however, may bring some relief from the lingering September heat. Rainfall in Other Parts of Bengal The IMD has also issued a forecast of heavy showers in north Bengal districts such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar till 20 September. The department said the rainfall is linked to an upper-air circulation over east Bihar along with strong moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal. In south Bengal, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected at several places till 22 September. According to IMD data, Malda recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 34 mm in the 24 hours ending Thursday morning, followed by Alipurduar at 31 mm.
