NSE & BSE Holiday Alert for Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra: Are Markets Open on October 2?

New Delhi: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed on October 2, 2025, in observance of Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra. The holiday has been confirmed in the official exchange calendars. In addition to the stock market, trading activities in the money market, the forex market, and the multi-commodity exchange (MCX) will also be suspended on this day. This means investors and traders should plan their activities accordingly, as no trading will take place across these platforms. Upcoming Muhurat Trading Session Despite the holiday at the beginning of October, market participants can look forward to the much-anticipated Muhurat trading session on October 21. This one-hour trading window, held annually during Diwali, is viewed as an auspicious occasion for investors. The Muhurat session will commence at 1:45 PM and conclude at 2:45 PM, with the cut-off for trade modifications set at 2:55 PM. According to the NSE, “All trades executed in this Diwali Muhurat trading session shall result in settlement obligations.” Additional Market Holidays in October Following Gandhi Jayanti, the markets will also be closed for Diwali Laxmi Pujan on October 21 and for Diwali Balipratipada on October 22. This results in three non-trading days in October, in addition to the weekends. The MCX and currency derivatives segments will observe the same holiday closures. Looking ahead, the NSE’s calendar indicates further holidays after October. Trading will be halted on November 5 for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti and on December 25 for Christmas.
