Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown spoke with the media on Wednesday for the first time since sparking a social media firestorm with a quote seemingly suggesting his dissatisfaction with his current status with the team.
Brown, whom the Eagles acquired in a trade with the Tennessee Titans during the 2022 offseason, made it clear that Philly is home and that he “did it to himself” with the speculation.
Brown also said his post was misconstrued.
However, the $96 million WR also made it clear he wants the ball too. Brown is under contract through 2029 and a key piece of the Eagles’ back-to-back trips to the Super Bowl and victory in 2024. His situation will be one to monitor in Week 5.

“First off, I’m going to start off by saying, obviously, Sunday after the game, I let my frustrations boil over,” Brown told reporters on Wednesday. “I didn’t speak to the media. I had a chance to correct my frustrations, and I continue to let it boil over. That’s on me. I take full accountability on that, posting that. My message on Twitter wasn’t directed at anyone in the building. My coaches, not my quarterback, my GM, nobody.
“I have an open communication with all my coaches and with my quarterback, as well. Me and my coaches – KP [offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo], Nick [Sirianni] – we discuss weekly about trying to put this thing on the same page.”

Brown had two receptions for seven yards on nine targets in the Eagles’ 25-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4, and he seemingly vented his frustration over not being more productive.
He enters Week 5 with 14 catches, 151 yards, and a touchdown — numbers that aren’t bad but are far below the high bar Brown has set for himself.
Brown said he believes that it is “normal to have frustration because of the standard we hold ourselves to,” noting the Eagles have a talent-laden roster.
“The defense and special teams have been lowkey carrying us,” he added. “We need to clean up what we need to clean up, and get on the same page, and play to the ability that we can, and be who we are.”

Brown later reiterated that his post was not directed at anyone in particular.
Many social media users believed his ominous tweet was his way of requesting a trade because he was unhappy with Patullo.
Brown also said that the Bible verse he shared could be applied to anything in life, and said that he is now the “meme team” after all of the messages and posts he has seen since.
“I think it’s fair to want the ball to get us going,” Brown said. “I don’t think it’s a bad thing, for one. It’s not just for targets or anything, to put numbers up for – no. I see that we’re struggling, and I’m a guy that wants the ball in those times. When we can’t find a way, give it to me. When the game is on the line, give the ball to me. I want that, I want that pressure. I put it on myself, and I work hard for it.”
The Eagles host the Denver Broncos in Week 5, and Brown has a date with reigning Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain II.
