I’m not saying we’re in hell, but Ted Cruz’s latest words at a Senate hearing sure do have a being-attacked-with-a-hot-poker quality to them.
Yesterday, there was a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the Trump administration’s response to crime in cities. There’s a full three-hour clip of it on C-SPAN, during which Chairman Chuck Grassley essentially hyped up the presence of the National Guard in those gosh-darn blue cities.
But never mind boasting that there’s been a 53% reduction in murders in D.C., which in actual terms means seven total homicides in August 2024 to three during the National Guard’s tenure. That’s all fine! We’re here to talk about Ted. The Texan senator said, and this is verbatim, “Let鈥檚 stop attacking pedophiles.”
…Sooooo maybe there’s some context? Not really! Right beforehand, Ted said, “We should have bipartisan agreement. How about we all come together and say, 鈥楲et鈥檚 stop murders.’ How about we all come together and say, 鈥楲et鈥檚 stop rape.’ How about we all come together and say, ‘Let鈥檚 stop attacking pedophiles.'”

As the clip went viral, California Govenor Gavin Newsom had a typically snarky response:
Some did point out that Ted recently voted against compelling Attorney General Pam Bondi to release the Epstein files.
To quote a John Oliver poem: I do not like that man Ted Cruz…
