Michigan State basketball lands 4-star forward from New Jersey

Michigan State now has multiple players in its next recruiting class.
Julius Avent, a 2026 four-star forward from Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, N.J., announced his commitment to Tom Izzo and the Spartans via social media on Wednesday. He picked Michigan State after previously announcing a top five that also included Xavier, Seton Hall, Providence and Penn State.
Avent is the second commit in the Spartans’ next class, joining four-star point guard Carlos Medlock Jr., a former Wayne Memorial standout finishing his high school career in Missouri, who committed in July.
At 6-foot-7 and 220 pounds, Avent is listed as the No. 2 power forward and No. 78 player overall in the 2026 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite. He was in East Lansing for an official visit at the end of August.
“I felt like it was a great culture, joining a winning program,” Avent told 247Sports. “The love that they showed me on my visit, the way they recruited me since last year, and offering me after Top 100 camp, they’ve just been on me a lot and showed out. They got my respect.”
