Polo Returns To Temecula: Wine & Polo Classic At Galway Downs

The equestrian venue with immaculate fields and world-class polo grounds is the perfect place to bring polo back to Temecula after a decade.
TEMECULA, CA — Imagine that sweeping field of green, the sound of thundering polo horses and mallets clashing, and white tents snapping in the breeze at the end of a Temecula day. Yes, it’s time once again to visit Temecula for the Wine & Polo Classic at Galway Downs.
The event is planned for October 18-19, at the polo fields, located at 38801 Los Corralitos Road in Temecula. Saturday’s Wine & Polo Classic is 21 and up, while Sunday’s event is a Family Day, organizers say. Tickets are available online at www.TemeculaPoloClub.com.
This is not just a sporting event but a society gathering, the founder and President of the Temecula Polo Club. Alexander Newman told Patch.
“Polo blends sophistication with the charm of Temecula Valley Wine Country. Approximately 1,500 to 2000 guests are expected,” he said.
Returning to Polo at Galway Downs has been years in the making. After a 10-year break, guests can once again watch the horses gallop across the grass, divots flying, as players strike their mallets and clash on the green.
Polo is an experience blending excitement, elegance, and camaraderie, whether you’re sipping wine in the Garden Party, enjoying the luxe lifestyle in a cabana with your friends, or taking in the atmosphere on the field.
On the field, U.S. Open Polo Champion Jared Sheldon will bring a “world-class level” to the festivities.
Recently, Newman spoke with Patch about bringing polo back to the valley after a prolonged absence.
“Temecula is already known for wine, lifestyle and community,” Newman said. “Polo blends perfectly into that fabric. It’s not just about the sport, it’s about creating a place where friendships are made, families come together, and lasting memories are created. Bringing polo back here will be an amazing new amenity for the community, something elegant yet approachable that people can enjoy year after year.”
At the event, visitors can enjoy general admission, cabana rentals for groups of friends, or VIP treatment that includes food, drinks, and music.
As the founder of Grape Wealth Management in Temecula, Newman specializes in helping retirees achieve financial peace of mind.
“My professional life is about guiding families through one of life’s most important transitions, and polo has become another way I can give back, by building something meaningful and lasting for the community.”
“My wife and I have always had a love for horses and spending time outdoors as a family,” Newman said. “Polo naturally became part of that lifestyle.”
Newman’s two sons both play polo, he says. “Watching them on the field at such a young age, of 9 and 8, is inspiring. It’s a reminder of how powerful polo can be in teaching athleticism, discipline and teamwork.”
