Scott happy with the composure shown
AFL: Chris Scott sits down with the media following his sides win against the Lions.
Fresh details have emerged over what sparked Geelong coach Chris Scott’s aggressive outburst at his post-qualifying final press conference which brought an AFL staff member to tears.
Scott called the woman last week to apologise after Geelong CEO Steve Hocking spoke with league officials, according to Code Sports, and the AFL is comfortable with how the situation has been handled.
But it’s now been revealed Scott’s reaction was “triggered by” the presence of a visually-impaired reporter named Matt Lee – who hosts a weekly program for Vision Australia radio – at his press conference.

It is not known exactly what happened between Lee and Scott but the report states Lee’s presence sparked the exchange between the dual premiership coach and the AFL staffer.
“Matt is welcome at any Geelong media opportunity and there is no concern with his attendance at Chris Scott’s post-game press conferences,” the Cats told Code Sports.
Lee asked two questions during Scott’s press conference.

“I just raise my hand and a lot of the coaches have acknowledged it and we’ve got into a system, like Craig McRae, he always looks across or Sam Mitchell and Luke Beveridge – they’ve all got to know me,” he told Code Sports.

“She (the AFL staffer) has always helped me because what happens with me and my support worker is we have always communicated with the media managers just to let people know that I do have low vision and it’s important that the coaches know that if I don’t see a cue or a gesture, I’m not interrupting.
“Last year there was an issue with Brad (Scott) as well. He said to me, ‘Is that a question or a statement’ at one of the games – and that did rattle me, but I don’t think he had an actual understanding of what my disability is.”
Scott’s apology to the AFL staffer involved in his incident came just hours before Bailey Smith apologised, via text message, to the News Corp photographer who he swore at and gave the middle finger to at a Geelong training session on Wednesday.

Bailey Smith in confrontation with photographer at training

“Both Chris and Bailey have apologised,” AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said on Monday.
“We leave the matter at that. We’d prefer it didn’t happen, but Geelong has managed that.”
Smith was angered by being photographed receiving treatment at an open media session.
“In more than two decades of covering the Cats, I’ve never been spoken to like that by a player,” Alison Wynd, the photographer involved, told News Corp.
“I appreciate Bailey acknowledging that his behaviour was unacceptable.
“I just hope I can have a positive working relationship with him moving forward, especially as the Cats head towards, hopefully, the grand final.
“I’ve had amazing messages of support from all around the globe.
“I’m looking forward to going back to covering the news, not being part of it.”

On Monday, Cats veteran Mark Blicavs denied the club had a cultural issue.
“I can only talk with the experience I’ve had. I love this place and I think we do a great job – things happen in the heat of the moment,” Blicavs said.
“I would hope, as a … culture in there, really open, really inclusive and we build a really good environment (where) everyone can excel.”
