Owner Goes Out To Buy Dog Meds—No One Prepared for What She Comes Back With

A woman was running a casual errand when her life changed in a moment, because a cat “chose” her.Hannah, 29, lives in Minnesota, and recently became the owner of rescue cat Signe—completely out of the blue.As she explained to Newsweek, she went to the pet store to get a bottle of ear cleaner for one of her pet dogs, and just minutes after arriving, “called my husband to let him know that I might have fallen in love with a cat.”The pet store partners with Arrows Heart Animal Rescue, a foster-based rescue group, and the cat was staying in the store with other adoptable cats. And while Hannah “was not planning on getting a cat, at least not for a while yet,” Signe immediately caught her eye.”When I walked by her, she came right up to the glass and started making biscuits. I knelt down to say hi to her, and she kept doing it. The lady taking care of the cats came out to say that she’s super skittish, and she hadn’t seen her do that before,” she said.Hannah called her husband and then went to have a proper meeting with Signe. But she had been spooked by a loud noise, and was “on edge,” hiding in a cubbyhole.”It took a whole treat tube to lure her out of the cubby,” Hannah said. “She let me hold her, feed her treats, and crawled her way right into my heart.”Hannah had to get home, but “could not stop thinking about her, and was almost in tears at the thought of never seeing her again,” she told Newsweek. And when she returned to the store just a few hours later, this time with her husband Donovan in tow, Signe recognized her right away, coming to greet her at the glass, and purring as they gave her ear scratches.”[My husband] knew, too, that she was coming home with us,” Hannah said. “Things like this don’t just happen. She chose us. I definitely think she was meant to be ours.”Hannah shared a post to Reddit’s r/cats on September 7 via her account u/adhd_exploring, where she told Signe’s story. She captioned it simply: “Went to the store for ear stuff for the dog, and now I have another cat.”Reddit users loved it, awarding the post more than 15,000 upvotes, as one commenter compared it to “going to get a couple of things from the store, and $100 later you come home.””She is so cute and clearly chose you,” another said, as one joked: “Good luck stuffing this cat in your dog’s ears.”Hannah—who confirmed she did remember to buy the ear cleaner she had initially gone to the store for—told Newsweek Signe is already getting along with her dogs, and while she is currently being kept separate from their other cat, their initial interaction has gone well. And while she’s still “skittish,” despite “all her nervousness, she is warming up to us. She starts purring immediately when being brushed or given ear scratches.”Hannah, who has previously adopted multiple animals from rescues or rehoming situations, added: “We cannot wait to watch her come out of her shell and become a fixture in our home.”Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share?
